ABOUT 

Debe Sham is a Hong Kong-born artist who reimagines the forms of community and community-building, with a particular focus on human relationships. She has developed projects that aim to facilitate co-creation and participation in art practice. For instance, the Rainbow Series (2013-15) features sculptures designed to break the ice and energize viewers, similar to playground equipment. New Haven Green & i (2017-18) are installations co-produced with the Yale Urban Design Workshop, the Eli Whitney Museum, and four New Haven public schools, engaging locals and exploring "what if" scenarios in parks. Broken Toes (2022) are interactive works presented by Grotto Fine Art that invite viewers to explore surroundings like newborns.

 

Debe is the recipient of several grants, such as the Lingnan DADI Art Fellowship in 2015, the HKETO Yale-China Art Fellowship for 2017-18, the Inside Burger Collection in 2019, and Tai Kwun AIR in 2021.  She has participated in local and international exhibitions llike the Hong Kong Sculpture Biennale in 2016, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in 2017, the Pop-up Art Festival in 2018, Art Basel Hong Kong from 2020 to 2024, and a recent showcase at the Hong Kong University Museum & Art Gallery in 2023. 


Debe holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Visual Arts. She was served as a reviewer for the Art Journal of the College Art Association of America, and as a part-time lecturer in BA and MA Programmes at the Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. at the School of Creative Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, where her research focuses on participatory art practices in Southeast Asian contexts. She is also a board member at 1a Space.


岑愷怡(Debe Sham)是一位生於香港的藝術家。她的作品主要透過探索人與人的關係,去重新想像社群的建立及其形態。她的作品將共創和參與的形式導入藝術實踐中,進行介入演練。如「彩虹系列」(2013-15)以一系列有如遊樂場設施的雕塑,去打破作品與觀賞者之間的僵局,並激發他們的活力;「紐黑文綠地與我」(New Haven Green & i 2017-18)與耶魯大學城市設計工作室(the Yale Urban Design Workshop)、伊萊·惠特尼博物館(Eli Whitney Museum)和四所紐黑文學校共創一系列的城市傢俱裝置,邀請當地群眾共同探索公共空間的發展及其可能性;在嘉圖現代藝術畫廊展出的「Broken Toes」(2022),讓觀眾透過互動作品再次如孩童般探索四周。

 

岑愷怡曾獲得了多項獎助金,包括2015年嶺南DADI Art獎學金、2017-18年度美國耶魯大學和香港經濟貿易辦事處(紐約)頒發的雅禮藝術獎助金、2019年Inside Burger Collection及2021年大館駐場藝術家計劃等。她也參加了本地及國際展覽,如2016 年香港雕塑雙年展、2017 年國際藝術節、2018 年Pop-up藝術節、2020 年至2024 年香港巴塞爾藝術展,以及最近在香港大學美術博物館的展示。


岑愷怡擁有視覺藝術學士和碩士學位。 曾任美國大學藝術協會藝術雜誌審稿人,並擔任香港浸會大學、香港中文大學、嶺南大學士及碩士課程的兼任講師。 目前,她在香港浸會大學創意藝術學院學習攻讀博士學位,研習東南亞背景下的參與式藝術實踐也是1a空間的董事會成員。
